Matt Kaiser Served as Panelist for an ABA Criminal Justice Section Discussion on Attorney-Client Privilege in Cross-Border Cases
On January 25th, Partner Matt Kaiser was on a panel put on by the ABA Criminal Justice Section titled Attorney-Client Privilege in Cross-National Cases: Considerations When Protections Vary within a Single Matter.
As part of the discussion, Mr. Kaiser and the other panelists addressed the frequent challenges that can arise when different nations offer varying legal protections for client communications with lawyers. Matt shared recent developments in the United States involving searches of law firms and lawyers and proposed changes in the Model Rules of Professional Conduct meant to limit lawyers’ involvement in money laundering. The panelists also discussed strategies other lawyers may employ to guard their client’s interests when their documents and personal are scattered worldwide.
