Jonathan Jeffress Interviewed about Jessie Liu’s Nomination to Lead D.C.’s U.S. Attorney’s Office
Partner Jonathan Jeffress, a former Assistant Federal Public Defender for the District of Columbia, was interviewed on WAMU about the nomination of Jessie Liu to lead the District of Columbia’s U.S. Attorney’s Office.
The story observed how Liu “is highly regarded among those she’s faced off with in the courtroom,” including Jeffress. He commented that, “she is respected by people on the defense side because we have someone we know we can work with. She’s respected both in and out of the office, and I think that’s critical.”
Jeffress has known Liu since the mid-2000s. They, “first squared off when he was with the Federal Public Defender’s office and she was an Assistant at the U.S. Attorney’s office in D.C. where they tried numerous cases involving firearms and fraud,” Jeffress said.
Jeffress also mentioned the significance of Liu’s experience at the Justice Department with matters of national security. “It’s a good area to have expertise in just because so many of these cases, espionage cases and other types of national security are being brought now in this United States Attorney’s office,” he said.
